Shogun Martial Arts has been training students in the New Orleans area for over 15 years. Our instructors don't just teach kenjutsu. They've competed at the highest levels and dedicated themselves to passing this art on to the next generation.
Thomas Heller - Head Kenjutsu Instructor, Owner
Thomas Heller is the founder of Shogun Martial Arts and has been teaching for more than 30 years. A sixth-degree black belt in kenjutsu and third-degree black belt in kickboxing, he is certified by Japan as a Chief Instructor and Ambassador of Kenjutsu, a recognition reserved for those who have mastered both the technique and the tradition of the art.
A two-time USKA World Champion, Thomas has also coached and mentored more than ten students to World Championship titles of their own. His instruction style meets every student where they are, from first-time beginners to advanced practitioners, with a focus on building real skill, real discipline, and a real connection to the art.
Armand Parvazi - Kenjutsu Instructor
Armand Parvazi has been training and teaching kenjutsu for over two decades. A fourth-degree black belt and four-time USKA World Champion, he is known for his technical precision and his ability to break down complex techniques in a way that makes them click.
Armand specializes in advanced draws, iaido, and fighting applications, and has played a key role in developing multiple World Champions and medalists. He continues to compete, train, and push his own practice forward, all while helping students sharpen their skills and deepen their understanding of the sword.
